Designed by Charles Ellet, Jr. as a wire cable suspension bridge, it opened in 1842 and was replaced in 1875.

Sans titreThe Emperor Franz I chain bridge was the second Prague bridge over the Vltava River. Built by Bedřich Schnirch in 1841, the bridge connected Národní třída across Střelecký Island with Újezd and Malá Strana. In 1898–1901 it was replaced by a new stone bridge and in 1919 the name was changed to the Legion Bridge.
