King Edward VII visited Bristol to open the new dock at Avonmouth on 9 July 1908. In the evening, after the opening celebrations, the King "had a motor drive from Avonmouth to Bristol, and inspected the Clifton Suspension Bridge". (Western Somerset Free Press, Saturday 11 July 1908, p. 8).

As far as we know at present, there is no fixed date for our going to Moreton, but expect it will not be until August. Could I only get another job I would not go. But I adored [Forburghs] & did not get anything. I think before many more years I shall move off abroad. But I have not saved enough [...] yet. Now I must chase, with kindest regards to all.
