History
Professor Andrew Robertson, FRS D.Sc MIMechE, MICE, Wh.Ex was professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Bristol.
It is customary for an academic engineer from the University of Bristol to act as a trustee for the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Robertson sat on the board from 1935 to 1970, taking over from Professor Ferrier. He acted as Deputy Chairman and Chairman of the Technical Committee until he stood down at age 87 to be replaced by Sir Alfred G. Pugsley. He oversaw the strengthening of the Clifton side chain anchorages, the testing and replacement of the end cross-girders, and the replacement of the timber decking of the carriageway.
